Changing Tides: Marine priorities for the sea around Alderney

On Tuesday 11 July, a film highlighting a number of stakeholder management priorities for the sea around Alderney was publicly screened. These priorities will be used to inform the development of a management plan for Alderney's waters and associated management actions. Priorities relating to the following areas were identified: 

  • Sustainable use 
  • Environmental Conservation and Protection
  • Knowledge and understanding
  • Designations (existing and future)
  • Local industry 
  • Tourism
  • Effective management
  • Infrastructure and facilities
  • Transport 
  • Community engagement 
  • Cooperation and collaboration
  • Waste management 
  • Long-term change

Public Screening of Marine Priorities Film

A film has been created using information from postal surveys and stakeholder interviews to highlight stakeholder and community priorities for future management of the sea around Alderney. The film will be publicly screened at 6pm on Tuesday 11 July at the Island Hall and is open to everyone.

Alderney Postal Survey Completed

In February and March this year, the Alderney Marine Forum conducted a postal survey of Alderney residents to collect views on how the sea around Alderney should be managed for the benefit of all residents over the next 10 years and beyond. A short summary of the survey results has been produced and will be used to help inform the development of a marine management plan for Alderney's waters.

Community Engagement Strategy Begins

The first steps in the community engagement strategy begin with the distribution of a postal survey to all households on Alderney. This is to gather input from the Alderney community regarding priorities for coastal and marine management in the sea around Alderney. An online version of the survey is available here.

Alderney Marine Forum Meeting

On the 30 November 2016, members of the Alderney Marine Forum met to discuss and plan the next steps in the development of a marine management plan for the conservation and sustainable use of Alderney's marine resources. The Forum's Terms of Reference were formally accepted at this meeting.
